CARNET PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Wildcat Invitational set for Saturday in Enterprise | High school

After a week off, cross country runners from area high schools return to competition on Saturday, most racing at the Wildcats Invitational at Enterprise.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 11 teams were registered for the competition, which will take place at Johnny Henderson Park near Highway 167. There were about eight hours left before registering mid-Wednesday afternoon.

The teams entered were Dothan, Enterprise, Providence Christian, Charles Henderson, Andalusia, Ashford, Geneva, New Brockton, Wicksburg, Zion Chapel and Kinston.

The event begins with the varsity women’s 5K ace at 8 a.m., followed by the varsity boys at 8:45 a.m. A junior varsity girls and boys 2.1-mile combined race is scheduled for 9:15 a.m.

Ashford back: After a few years without a schedule, Ashford is back on the cross country scene this year and competes for the first time on Saturday at Enterprise.

The Yellow Jackets have two runners signed up for Saturday in freshmen Carly Dawsey and Lydia Ingram. The two run in the 2.1-mile junior varsity race at 9:15 a.m.

The NMA heads to Montgomery: While most area teams are at Enterprise Saturday, a local program is heading to Montgomery for the Montgomery Trailblazer.

That one school is Northside Methodist Academy, which has all of its runners in the 2.1-mile combined junior varsity co-ed race at 9:05 a.m.

The race, held at Gateway Park, is now hosted by Montgomery Academy after Trinity hosted it for years.
