Coe-Brown Northwood Academy’s Aidan Cox finished fifth in the New England Cross Country Championships on Saturday, one of three runners from New Hampshire to finish in the top five in the boys’ race, highlighting the area competitors at Ponaganset High School in North Scituate, RI
Birhanu Harriman of Lebanon (15:40), Patrick Gandini of Gilford (15:43) and Cox (15:45) went 3-4-5 to lead the NH runners, while Devan Kipyego of St. Raphael, RI , won the New England crown at 3:25 p.m.
The Coe-Brown boys finished 11th out of 29 teams, the best finish by a Granite State team on the boys’ side of the standings.
Hall, Connecticut (89), Bishop Hendricken, RI (97) and Ridgefield, Connecticut (161) were the top three teams.
Tyler Tkaczyk (72nd, 5:02 p.m.), Nikhil Chavda (76th, 5:06 p.m.), Gavin Demas (149th, 5:53 p.m.), Jamie Lano (194th, 6:24 p.m.), Luc Kerouac (220th, 6:47 p.m.) and Sanjith Nomula (237th, 7:11 p.m.) also ran well for CBNA.
Hopkinton’s Ben Daniels finished 135th in 17:42.
On the girls’ side, Ruth White of Orono, Maine won the title in 17:51, followed by Brianna Malone of Portsmouth Christian in 18:34.
Sheldyn Fisher of Coe-Brown (17th, 19:11), Maya Brochu of Bow (62nd, 20:18), Hannah Bennett of Hopkinton (108th, 21:04) and Molly Ellison of Kearsarge (115th, 21:10) complemented the local competitors. .
Glastonbury, Conn. (116), Champlain Valley, Vt. (133) and New Milford, Conn. (174) were the top three teams, while Hannover (seventh) was NH’s top team
