MELROSE — The Minnewaska girls won the first-place trophy at the Melrose Invitational, which took place at Meadowlark Golf Course on Tuesday.
Minnewaska, ranked 10th in the state in Class A, finished with 39 points to beat second-place New London-Spicer, which had 47. Litchfield took third place with 72 points.
Morris/Chokio-Alberta junior Hailey Werk won the 5,000 meter course with a time of 20 minutes, 8.29 seconds. Lauren Ankeny of Minnewaska was second with a time of 20:36.08 and Madison Wendlandt of Paynesville was third in 20:53.26.
On the boys’ side, Sauk Center won with 55 points, followed by Pequot Lakes with 85 and New London-Spicer with 94.
Brandon Kampsen won the boys race in 16:14.68. Minnewaska’s Maeson Tank was fourth in 17:50.08. Kampsen is ranked second in the state in Class A.

In the boys’ race, MCC had 68 points to beat Milbank, SD, which had 77, and Canby/Minneota, which had 78. LQPV/DB was fourth with 95 points. Montevideo finished sixth with a 148.
Payton Brown of Milbank took first place with a time of 17 minutes, 19.15 seconds.
In the girls’ race, MCC had 34 points, beating Milbank, who had 62, and Canby/Minneota, who scored 63. LQPV/DB finished sixth with 126.
The women’s champion was MCC’s Amanda Overgaauw, who clocked 18:01.25. Ashley Overgaauw, her sister, was second in 19:20.72.
