Death in Paradise fans will be able to soak up the winter sun this Christmas with the first festive special of the hit crime drama.
The BBC show, which takes place on the fictional island of St. Mary, celebrates its 10th anniversary in thrilling style.
A 90-minute special will feature the one-time return of Officer Dwayne Myers, played by Danny John-Jules, and an appearance by Juliet Stevenson.
Danny, 60, who has played in seven series, said: “It’s always a pleasure to come back to the Caribbean.
“After four years of absence, the reinstatement in the fold should be transparent, because I know the new members of the main cast.
“I can’t wait to bring Dwayne and this special 10th anniversary storyline to life.” The episode will star Ralf Little as DI Neville Parker and action that spans from the grayness of London to the exotic Saint Mary.
Executive producer Tim Key said, “We’ve been talking about a Christmas episode for years, so we’re more than excited to finally make one and work with Danny again.
“We can’t think of a better place to spend Christmas than at Sainte Marie.” BBC Drama Editor-in-Chief Tommy Bulfin said: “We are delighted that Death in Paradise is bringing sunshine to the holiday program.”
The drama draws eight million viewers, and Series 11 begins in January.
The Christmas storyline will see Detective Sergeant Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert) leaving the island to spend Christmas with her family, so the team welcomes Dwayne (Danny John-Jules) with open arms to help solve a murder case.
Dwayne realizes that he has not only met Officer Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles), but that he has already arrested him.
It remains to be seen how the team of old and new faces will come together to unravel a murderous crime.
Meanwhile, after vexed fans were left hanging after the series ended ten earlier this year, they might also find out if Neville has spoken to Florence about his feelings for her?
Viewers have seen Neville and Florence’s relationship develop during Series Ten and all will be revealed in the Christmas special with “more surprises to come” in Series Eleven.
The shooting of the show is taking place on the island of Guadeloupe and while the eleven series is not yet finished and will not be on screen until 2022, a twelfth series has also already been ordered due to its success.
