Death in Paradise season 12: could Florence become the next detective? | Television and radio | Showbiz and TV

Death in Paradise celebrated its 10th anniversary with an epic series in early 2021. DS Camille Bordey (played by Sara Martins) made a temporary comeback and even the late DI Richard Poole (Ben Miller) made an appearance. More importantly, the BBC comedy-drama once again welcomed DS Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert) who returned to her job at Honoré’s police station.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Death in Paradise.

Florence left the island in 2018 after the murder of fiance Patrice Campbell (Leemore Marrett Jr).

She had worked with DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon).

This means that DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) will be the third detective she has worked with during her time in the force.

Florence has been in the same situation as DS for years now, could it soon be time for her to progress?

Could Florence become the next detective?

Actress Josephine Jobert has starred in many parts of the show’s history.

Not only did she work with three of the four detectives, but she also been in half of the 10 seasons, including the last anniversary series.

She will also be returning for Season 11 and potentially Series 12 which has already received the green light from the BBC.

With all this experience under her belt, she could one day rise through the ranks to lead the team.

Jobert added: “When Sara [Martins] came back, we were joking that we should have a special episode together, where we investigate together, that would be great.

“But for the whole series, I don’t know. Just create another series where the detective is a woman.”

Not much will be back for Season 11, but he has already stated that there is no guarantee he will play in Season 12.

He told Graham Norton on his Virgin Radio show: “I will be back next year but I don’t think I signed on for the two years.”

While Jobert might not be so keen on the idea of a female detective, the show’s creators aren’t against the possibility.

Speaking to The Guardian’s executive producer, Tim Key teased, “There is no rule, he always has to be a man.”

With no firm plan for Little to return in Season 12, could there be a chance that Death in Paradise’s first female sleuth?

Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
