Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea on Sunday accused the rival parties of “blocking the formation of a new government and preparing, as usual, to block the presidential election”.
“What is very certain is that it is not to come up with some reformist plan but rather to try to get the election of Jebran Bassil or someone he has appointed president,” said Geagea during the annual mass commemorating the “martyrs of the Lebanese resistance”. “
He added: “We will not accept a president from them. Rather, we want a president who can change everything that we have been through during this presidential term.”
“We want a confrontational president, not facing the Lebanese, but rather facing all those who have ruined their lives,” continued the head of the FL.
Addressing all change and opposition blocs and MPs by name, Geagea urged them to secure the election of a “salvation president”.
“We, as a strong Republic bloc – LF, National Liberal Party and Independents – are the biggest bloc in parliament, and we enjoy the biggest Christian representation. Despite this, we are not clinging to anything, and we we are rather ready to sacrifice everything, provided that all the opposition parties unite around a saving candidate”, added Geagea.
