Howell senior Mackenzie Wright finished first in 19 minutes, 29.8 seconds on her home run at the Highlander Invite.
Howell finished second out of six teams with 51 points. Walled Lake Northern won with 20 having the next five finishers after Wright.
Mia Cholewa finished eighth (21:02.1), Sarah Halliday 13th (21:25.9), Lea MacGregor 15th (21:33.7) and Ella Koons 17th (21:43.5) to complete the scoring of Howell.
The Howell boys were second out of seven teams with 63 points, behind Walled Lake Northern’s top-34. Brighton’s junior varsity team was fifth with 132.
Howell’s five riders finished within 21.9 seconds of each other. Noah DeLand was eighth (18:08.4), Lucas Wood 10th (18:09.4), Connor Ford 12th (18:19.0), Liam Hoover 16th (18:25.2) and Drake Wallace 17th (18:30.3) for Howell.
Brighton’s Elijah Forbord was 13th (18:22.3).
First Burg of Laingsburg
Brett Marschall of Fowlerville placed 10th in 17:54.6. The Gladiators finished seventh out of nine teams with 190 points.
The Fowlerville girls were seventh out of 10 teams with 170.
Happy Acres Invitation
Raymond Rogers was 21st in 18:11.92 and Anthony Urbaniak was 23rd in 18:13.29, leading Charyl Stockwell to ninth place out of 14 teams with 236 points.
The Livingston Christian girls finished ninth at 204, led by a 19th-place finish by returning State Qualifier Taylor Wiegand in 22:08.51.
Volleyball
Motor City Power Series
Brighton took second-seeded Ann Arbor Skyline by the wire before losing 23-25, 25-21, 15-13 to finish 2-2 in the series opener.
The Bulldogs also suffered a narrow loss to perennial powerhouse Novi, 25-21, 22-25, 15-11.
Brighton (5-3-1) beat Romeo 25-23, 25-23 and Rochester Hills Stoney Creek 25-18, 26-28, 15-9.
Portland double double
Fowlerville lost 25-20, 27-25, 23-25, 25-19 to Portland and 25-20, 25-18, 25-22 to Ionia.
Ava Kuch had 13 kills and six blocks; Julia Johnson had 31 digs and three aces; Tommi Kleinschmidt had 25 digs and eight kills; and Morgan Thomas had 26 digs and 24 assists for the Gladiators (1-4).

Meet Milford
Brighton finished third out of six teams in their season opener. The top two teams in the division will advance to Regionals from September 30 to October 30. 2 at the Shiawassee Fairgrounds.
Brighton’s top scorers were Amelia McWilliam, Margaux Defibaugh and Colby Chewning.

Quad South Lyon East
Brighton won the competition capturing seven of nine steals and taking second place in the other two.
The Bulldogs (10-4) scored 25 points, South Lyon East 19, Farmington 8 and Livonia Franklin 2.
The first for Brighton in singles were Pierce Pettengill (no 2), Logan Fossum (no 3) and Tyler Adams (no 4). The doubles unbeaten were Joshua Cortez and Joseph Klonowski (#1), Ben Anderson and Christian Fitch (#2), Nate Reynolds and Max Topoleski (#3), and David Biesiada and Ayush Shenoy (#4).
No. 1 singles Dorian Pettengill and No. 5 doubles Logan Gardner and Jon Solgat finished second for the Bulldogs.

Ben Krause finished second at No. 3 in singles for Hartland. Hartland’s doubles teams of Dominick Marinelli and Brady Johnson (#1), Jonathon Waske and Logan Demeniuk (#2), Curtis Wynn and Colton Krueger (#3) and Ray Johnson and Ryan Pompilius (#4 ) took second place.
