But he revealed the conditions on set were a “disaster” for him as he battled the heat.
While chatting on Saturday’s edition of ITV’s Celebrity Catchphrase, the comedian and actor admitted to welcoming Stephen Mulhern.
After catching up with Loose Women and Strictly Come Dancing star Judi Love and host Lucrezia Millarini, Stephen said to Ben, “Look, you’ve done so many different things …”
The presenter continued, “You did (the) Johnny English movies, Paddington movies, recently Bridgerton – which was like a huge hit.
“But, would you say people know you best for Death in Paradise?” “
“Yes,” Ben replied.
Mulhern asked, “So when you got the call, what went through your head?”
“Oh, no,” the former onscreen sleuth joked, as the audience and their contestants laughed.
He continued, with his reaction at the time: “It looks like a disaster because I’m terrible in the heat.
“I had never been to the Caribbean except in winter, that’s when it’s perfect.
“You couldn’t have asked for a better place to go on vacation… – in winter.
“In summer, it’s amazing!”
He recalls, “I mean I wore a woolen suit in all of my scenes, so I faded like a lily.”
Despite this, Miller handled the role until the start of season three – when his character was killed.
He then made a surprise comeback for Season 10, appearing as a figment of Camille Bordey’s character.
