Former NFL linebacker Lorenzo Alexander shares his story of salvation: ‘I yearned for more’

Former Washington Redskins (now Washington Commanders) linebacker Lorenzo Alexander recently joined the Sport Spectrums I ONCE WAS segment, sharing the story of his conversion to Christianity.

Alexander said he gave his life to Christ in 2008 after tragedy struck the team.

“When I decided to give my life to Christ in 2008, I already had men in my life working on me; great men, Christian men, who shaped him,” he said.

“In this Washington Redskins locker room, we had the death of one of our teammates, Sean Taylor,” he continued. “His life ended far too soon, before his time, his death made me reflect on my own legacy that I was living.”

Despite his success in the NFL so far, Alexander said he still felt empty.

“I was in the NFL, making a lot of money, living my dream, but in reality, I had a hole in my heart and yearned for more,” he explained. “So with this tragedy that really pushed me towards something that I wasn’t sure what it was and the modeling of these men that I mentioned, my teammates, my brothers, I quickly discovered that it was Christ.

“At the end of that season just before playing in Seattle, I gave my life to Christ with pastor Brett Fuller,” he added. “From that moment on, I walked with Christ trying to be more like him every day.

“I’ve had ups and downs, but one thing I know is that Christ loves me unconditionally no matter what I do,” he concluded.

Since his NFL career, Alexander has founded the ACES Foundation, a flag football league to teach young boys discipline and character traits they can use later in life.

“ACES understands the importance of having a safe and fun atmosphere for young people to be exposed to football in a low-contact environment. And through our partnership with NFL Flag, we want to bring that opportunity to the Arcadia and South Scottsdale community. This league will teach youth fundamentals, develop character, forge friendships and an opportunity to compete on a weekly basis,” its website bed.
