Manchester City v Aston Villa: Times, TV and how to watch online

Manchester City head into the final round of Premier League fixtures for the 2021-22 season one point ahead of Liverpool and with the destination of the title firmly in their hands. Aston Villa are the visitors on Sunday and Steven Gerrard would no doubt love the opportunity to do his old club a favor by beating City, but Liverpool must also make sure they see Wolves at Anfield to win the title if Villa become just the third team to get the better of Pep Guardiola’s men this season. There are several scenarios in the event of a draw or defeat of City or Liverpoolbut the main thing for Guardiola is to win the game, to win the title for the fourth time in five seasons.

The numbers don’t favor Villa – or Liverpool – however. Gerrard’s side have not beaten City away since 2007 and last beat their opponents on Sunday in 2013, at Villa Parc. The hosts haven’t been beaten at all on the final day of the season since the same year, when Norwich secured all three points to end the 2021-13 season. The return to form of Danny Ings and Philippe Coutinho comes at the right time for Villawho have no reason not to give their all to the Etihad with a 14th place assured and the potential to skip a few more with just one point separating Gerrard’s side from 11th.

Guardiola received a similar boost at the back with John Stones and Kyle Walker are back after training this week, and the City boss has almost a full squad at his disposal and is unlikely to take any risks. It probably means a top three of Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus with Kevin de Bruyne, who is in electric form, pulling the strings from midfield. Recent history also suggests City will emerge victorious on Sunday after a draw with West Ham left the title race open until the final day: the last time Guardiola failed to win back-to-back league games was in December 2020.
