Owaisi says ‘India doesn’t have one religion’ as Rahul Gandhi and preacher’s chat sparks row

Amid Rahul Gandhi’s conversation with a controversial pastor doing the rounds, AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi reacted on Saturday. Speaking to the media, the MP said the country “has no particular religion”. Highlighting how some compatriots believe in Allah, some in Bhagwan, some in Jesus and some in Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Hyderabad parliamentarian called diversity “the beauty of India”.

Owaisi’s first reaction to Rahul Gandhi’s video

Gandhi’s descendant in the controversial video can be seen debating whether Jesus Christ is a form of God or God by himself. While many were seen answering his question, Pastor George Ponnaiah can be heard seated to his right saying, “Jesus is both the Son of God and God Himself. He goes on to add, “He is a true God. He is like a real God. God reveals himself as a man, as a human person, not as Shakti and all.”

Responding to the controversy, the lawyer said: “If anyone said something like that, then they should understand that the beauty of the country is this. To maintain that beauty, we all have to work in tandem.” He added that he had not seen the video in question.

Relevantly, Pastor George Ponniah is a member of Jananayaga Christhava Peravai, a Tamil Nadu-based NGO located in Kanyakumari, and is often known for his controversial rhetoric. Ponnaiah also allegedly delivered a ‘hate speech’ against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, DMK Minister and many others for which he was arrested in Kallikudi, Madurai last year.

“Is it Bharat Jodo? »

Rahul Gandhi met the pastor in the middle of his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ – a country-wide padayatra which will cover nearly 3,570 kilometers over 150 days spanning 12 states. The yatra started on Wednesday in Kanyakumari.

The BJP strongly criticized Congress and Rahul Gandhi over the video. Party spokesman Shehzad Poonawalla, calling it a ‘Nafrat Jodo Yatra’, condemned the way the controversial pastor, who threatened Hindus and said inappropriate things about Bharat Mata, was made ‘poster’ ” movement.

Sambit Patra, another BJP spokesperson, said, “This ‘Hindu hatred’ of Congress in general and Rahul in particular is no longer an underground affair… Rahul wears it on his sleeves with pride!
