Blessing of Pets Coming Sunday

TORRINGTON — Parishioners of the Center Congregational Church will celebrate a Blessing of Pets Sunday at 2 p.m. on the lawn at 155 Main Street.

The tradition is in remembrance of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment, and his love for all of God’s creatures. Caged, leashed or otherwise secure pets such as dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, iguanas, hamsters – and all creatures large and small – are invited to a special dedication by Reverend Averill Blackburn . Photographs of beloved pets that are no longer alive may also be brought for blessing.

Everyone is welcome; registration is not required.

After the ceremony, there will be refreshments, demonstrations, photos with pets and more. For more information, call the church at 860-489-8301 or email
