Salvation Army appeals for Christmas presents in Trowbridge

ONCE AGAIN The Salvation Army in Trowbridge is calling on the local community to ‘be a star’ and donate new toys to their Christmas gift appeal which is backed by the Wiltshire Times and will support families in need during the holiday season.

The charity is seeking donations of new toys and gifts to give vulnerable children something to open on the big day.

Michala Lancefield, leader of the Salvation Army church, said: “Sadly we know it will be another very difficult Christmas for local families.

“As the rising cost of living hits home, the number of children potentially receiving no gifts will be even higher this year, so please support the call and share some hope this Christmas.

“Each year we ask people to donate new, unwrapped toys and gifts to our Christmas gift appeal so that we can distribute them to families whose children would not otherwise receive a gift.

“People in and around Trowbridge are so generous every year and we couldn’t help those in need without your support.

“This year, we expect the number of families asking for help to increase due to the added pressure on already tight family budgets.

“By adding an extra gift or gift to your shopping list this year, you can remind families facing a tough winter that their community matters.

“The Salvation Army will collect, sort and distribute the gifts to children and families in the area through their social services contacts.”

Gifts can include anything from stuffed animals and educational toys for the youngest child to games, toys, books, toiletries and accessories for older children. All gifts must be new and must be unboxed.

Michala added, “We are in the final stages of planning for this year’s call which will run from November 14 to December 4. Between these dates, you can bring your donations to the following places:

  • Tesco Extra, County Road, Trowbridge
  • The Shires Management Office, Trowbridge
  • Morrisons, Warminster
  • Morrisons, Westbury (from 15 November)

“We will also be offering two opportunities for people to bring their kind donations directly to our church building in Castle Street, Trowbridge. The dates for this are Friday, December 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, December 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. It means a lot to The Salvation Army and even more to those we are able to support.
