Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) recently shared the news of a milestone achievement. SAVWIPL announced that for the first time in its India operations, it recorded an astonishing first-half sales of 52,698 units. The company revealed that it managed to ship this large number of cars between January and June 2022.
Additionally, he reported that SAVWIPL’s sales increased 200% year-on-year in the first half of 2022. During this period, the group introduced a total of 10 new models, and it still plans to continue to expand its product line in the coming year. . The conglomerate added that the majority of sales of this figure are the result of its rapidly growing Skoda and Volkswagen branded cars.
Both Skoda and Volkswagen recorded strong sales figures, with Skoda reaching its highest ever sales in India on June 22. Volkswagen, on the other hand, recently set a record by delivering 150 Virtus cars in a single day, placing itself in the Indian record books. The company further said that it aims to penetrate deep into major market groups, including metropolitan and non-metropolitan locations, with its new INDIA 2.0 products. By the end of this year, the group also aims to increase the number of touchpoints with its customers across the country to more than 450.
Additionally, in February this year, SAVWIPL began exporting the Indian-made Volkswagen T-Cross, the first in a line of vehicles built on the MQB-A0-IN platform. Moreover, with the production of 15,000,000 units from its manufacturing sites in Chakan, Pune and Shendra, Aurangabad, India, the group also commemorated a milestone in its Indian adventure in March 2022.
Speaking on the achievement of this incredible milestone, Piyush Arora, Managing Director of ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Private Limited, said: “With our strong half-year sales, we are preparing for another success story in India. Our strong brand portfolio is performing exceptionally well across all market segments, with our INDIA 2.0 cars generating significant volumes for the Group. Sales growth is also supported by other important markers. We have achieved 100% growth in production and 35% growth in exports during this period. While we are confident to maintain this momentum, we continue to face challenges caused by geopolitical instability and the continued shortage of semiconductors that are disrupting the supply chain.
