Texas A&M students host Thanksgiving potluck for those who stayed on campus

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Two Texas A&M students who were staying for Thanksgiving hosted a potluck for the other Aggies remaining on campus.

They gathered outside the liberal arts and humanities building on the architecture quad for an international celebration. The students bought a ham, pork carnitas, Alfredo pasta and lots of pie.

Senior Elvira Bradley and sophomore Jonathan Trevino are the two who put it together. They say it wasn’t about the food, it was about the community.

“We just didn’t want anyone to be alone for Thanksgiving,” Bradley said. “We just hope people find friends here who are also international students who are staying here for the holidays.”

“It’s my first semester here for Thanksgiving, so I didn’t realize how sorry that can get,” Trevino said. “Everyone went home apparently, so it’s really nice to have a place for someone to come and not be alone at Thanksgiving.”

Most of the people who showed up met for the very first time on Thursday. Elvira and Jonathan say they just met on Monday and it was a great opportunity to make new friends.

“We’re all here at the same time under more or less the same circumstances,” Trevino said.

“I encourage everyone to be kind and generous during Thanksgiving or during the holidays in general,” Bradley said. “It was just out of the goodness of my heart. This is something we did at random, and I encourage everyone to do the same.
