The UCLA women’s cross country team faced a tough competitive field, finishing in seventh place in the Oregon competition. Paced by senior Emma Tavela (12th, 20:30.4), the Bruins had two runners who finished in the top-25 (Mia Kane24, 20:59.1).

2021 Florida State Invitational / Pre-Nationals

The women’s team finished 25th at the 2021 Pree-Nationals meet in Tallahassee, Fla., in a talented opposition field. Gwyne George crossed as the team’s first runner on the 6 km course at Appalachian Regional Park, finishing 106th overall in a time of 21:16.2. Emma Tavela was just behind in 110th place, finishing with a time of 21:18.3 for the 6km.

Pierre Herold paved the way for Bruin’s men en route to a 27th-place finish. Herold ran an 8k time of 23:59.6 for a 67th-place finish. Darius Riley closely followed in 69th place, cruising with a time of 24:00.8.

2021 Highlander Invite

Bruin’s men finished fourth overall and the women’s team had strong placings from each of its four riders at last year’s Highlander Invitational.

Jake Parker stuck in the lead pack throughout the 8km competition, crossing in 13th place with a time of 24:22.9. Marcus Mota followed close behind in 21st place, clocking 24:34.1 as the team’s second runner. Patrick Curulla (24:49.3) and William Frankenfeld (24:51.4) went 36-39, respectively, while Anthony Pierre crossed in 59th with a time of 25:09.2 to complete the Bruins’ score at five.

The UCLA women only fit four runners in the 6k and therefore did not record a team placement as at least five runners are required to earn a team score. The team earned four top-40 finishes that day, led by by Mia Kane 15th place (21:08.6). The four runners slipped away under 10:00 p.m. for the 6 km course at Riverside.
