The Red Cross offers gifts in exchange for blood donations

From now until November 22, all donors who choose to donate blood will receive a $10 gift card at a merchant of their choice. Donating healthy blood before flu season hits will greatly help patients in need.

Those who can give blood during Thanksgiving, Nov. 23-27, will receive a Red Cross cap, while supplies last. Anyone who comes to donate between Nov. 28 and Dec. 28 15 will receive a $10 Amazon gift card.

The CDC predicts a severe spread of the flu this year and is already reporting an early spike in cases in several states. When seasonal diseases increase, the number of healthy blood donors tends to decrease. The American Red Cross is asking people to donate now to ensure blood is available when patients need it.

The American Red Cross is urging blood donors to donate now and to address the potential impact of seasonal illnesses and a potentially severe flu season on the blood supply. Coupled with busy holiday schedules, seasonal illnesses can make it harder to collect the blood that hospital patients need this winter. Donors – especially those with type O blood and those who donate platelets – can help boost the blood supply now by making an appointment to donate in the coming weeks.
