An organization that, among other things, provides food and other basic necessities throughout the year, but which is especially visible during the holidays, is preparing to celebrate 125 years of Salina.

The Salina Salina Army will be celebrating 125 years in Salina July 22-24.

The organization told KSAL News that plans are coming together for the Friday and Saturday events this weekend. The town of Salina will block off the 1100 block off Santa Fe, and there will be plenty of outdoor and indoor activities. Non-profit organizations will be installed in the chapel. Currently, 13 agencies have reserved booths.

Packages include:

  • On Friday, July 22, they’ll kick off the weekend with a free concert at the Eric Stein Stage in Oakdale Park. The headliner will be contemporary Christian band Christafari. Local artists Dru Davis, Cash Hollistah and Into Forever will also perform. The concert will begin at 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturday July 23 will be the time to celebrate the Community. The Salvation Army will be hosting a block party at 1137 N. Santa Fe from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Those planning to participate include the Salina Police Department, Saline County Sheriff’s Department, Salina Fire Department, and Armed Forces Obstacle Course. Bounce-A-Roos will have 5 houses and activities. There will be games and face painting. Hot dogs, fries and drinks. Non-profit organizations will have information booths and there will be tours of Salvation Army facilities. Best of all, it’s free for the community.
  • Sunday July 24 will be a time of worship with the Salvation Army. Territorial and Divisional Chiefs will be in attendance as well as the Salvation Army Divisional Band, which will perform. Outside service will begin at 10:45 a.m.

The organizers are recruiting volunteers. They say KSAL News’ plans are coming to fruition quickly and now they need a little help. More importantly, volunteers are needed for the Friday and Saturday events.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
