Why aren’t Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders tonight? Schedule change explained

Football is coming home tonight … which means soap fans won’t be able to catch up on The Rovers, The Woolpack, or The Queen Vic.

A crucial match between England and Scotland in the Euro 2020 tournament means all three soap operas will not be shown on their regular schedules tonight.

Instead, fans will have to wait until Sunday, when ITV airs an additional episode of Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

The BBC will air what should have been tonight’s EastEnders episode on Wednesday. Walford-based soap opera producer Jon Sen has promised that there will be a topical discussion of the beautiful game inserted in some upcoming scenes.

Leave it aahhht, there ain’t no EastEnders tonight

He said: “We will be celebrating all four episodes on screen and in the box, so that everyone gets their dose of drama and football fans don’t miss a thing.”

Corrie boss Iain MacLeod compared the excitement of tonight’s game to the action on the cobblestones of Weatherfield, saying:

“There will be times when they let you down, make mistakes and maybe score a few own goals.
