William “Bill” Cross, 73, died Thursday, May 5, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born on March 5, 1949, to Ralph and Antoinette (Medinger) Cross at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dodgeville. Bill has now joined his parents and brother in the promise of his baptism into eternal life.
Bill served in the Legislature from 1970 to 1983 and from 1985 to 2009. He spent 34 years between the Senate and the Assembly. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus and won the highest honor in 1997. Bill volunteered and helped start the televised Mass. He took pride in his service to people, no matter what he did. Bill was very friendly, a good listener, compassionate and seeing others happy brought him joy.
Bill is survived by his sister-in-law, Bonnie Cross; nieces, Terry (Jeffrey) Jakober, Sherry (Michael) Wilson; nephews, Jay Cross, Scott Cross, Eric Cross; great-nephews, Andrew Jakober, Ryan Cross, Christian Wilson, Evan Cross; great-nieces, Ashley Dum, Carly Cross, Breanna Wilson, Jamie Cross, Niki Cross and Samantha Cross.
He is predeceased by his parents, Antoinette and Ralph Cross, brother, Dennis W. Cross, niece Jaclyn Hueg, nephew Robin Cross.
Bill was blessed with the friendship of Father Thomas Colye, Ogi Ganbat and his family from Mongolia, Bea and the Roy Chung family, Tibetan Choeckys family members, Craig and Cindy Pauly family members, Mike and Jinja Nonn, Mike Staude, Bill Ruff, Tom “Chico” Lenoch, Dave Pulda, Larry Kleinheinz and his brother Knights and Sir Knights of the Knights of Columbus.
A Mass for Eternal Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022, at Good Shepherd Catholic Parish of St. James’s Church, 1128 St. James Court, Madison. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. until time of mass at the church. Interment will take place at a later date at the Resurrection Cemetery.
